Let me start off by saying that I made homemade chili the other day. Let me also say that it took me about 30 minutes JUST to get all the cans open.
I have a normal handheld can opener. Obviously, it doesn't work very well. It tore up the sides of the cans, left sharp and jagged edges, and took forever! I almost gave up. Maybe I'm weak. Or maybe it's just a crummy can opener.
Then I remembered that I was selected to receive and review an electric can opener in exchange for my honest review! What a relief. I quickly located it on my shelf and finished opening the remaining cans once I put the batteries in (4 AA).
Wow. I opened 5 cans in less than 2 minutes. No jagged edges, no torn cans, and no sharp can rims! I've been known to slice open some fingers on can rims in my day....
The thing about this can opener that sets it apart is the fact that it opens cans from the side instead of directly on top, which helps prevent those jagged and sharp edges. Also, you don't even have to keep your hand on it while it's working! Simply press the button on the top of the can opener and leave the rest to it! It swivels itself around the edge and does everything with ease. It was actually kind of cool to watch.
